New pedestrian and cycle route through an existing wetland landscape, connecting across a busy road into the heart of Rainham.
The Options and Feasibility Study identified a unique cycling and walking experience linking urban centres with a wealth of green space including nature reserves and Sites of Special Scientific Interest. This greenway study proposed routes that included willow groves, bridges and timber boardwalks through the reedbeds. The key issues in the design were protection and enhancement of the wildlife habitats. A huge success story for this area are the newly returned marsh harriers now breeding in the site.
A major issue in this project was the successful crossing of the A1306 which is the de-trunked A13. The design of the road encourages very fast use, with speed limits increasing at the point when residents want to cross the road to get to green space.
